Ladies Pavilion Central Park Wedding | Laura & Stefan

When Laura and Stefan decided on eloping to NYC from the UK, a bucket-list trip for them, they were certain of one thing: a Ladies Pavilion Central Park wedding. Their plans were for a quiet, low-key morning surrounded by greenery, and a stroll to Bethesda Terrace and nearby streets; a very classic New York elopement.

But when I met Laura at the Peninsula Hotel the morning of their wedding day, grey skies and looming rainclouds were ominous. We arrived at Ladies Pavilion where Stefan was waiting, back turned. Then, Laura let her dress fall and walked up to Stefan for their first look. It was a joyous moment; you could tell how giddy they were to finally get married.

Ladies Pavilion is one of Central Park’s most romantic wedding locations, and for good reason. This charming Victorian-style structure sits on the western edge of the Lake, offering stunning water views and a secluded feeling despite being in the middle of Manhattan.

For Laura and Stefan’s Ladies Pavilion Central Park wedding ceremony, the setting couldn’t have been more perfect. The pavilion provided just enough shelter from the rain while keeping them connected to nature. The ornate iron railings and classic architecture created an elegant backdrop without feeling stuffy or formal—exactly what they wanted for their intimate Central Park wedding.

After their vows, we took some photos by the lake with the fall colors peeking through, then walked down to the Bethesda Terrace area. Even with the off-and-on rain showers and Laura’s dress picking up mud, you couldn’t wipe the smiles off their faces. With a little time left, we decided to tack on an extra location to make their day really iconic: Times Square. It truly was a 180-degree detour from that “quiet Ladies Pavilion wedding” they had described to me.

“I thought you guys wanted something low-key…?” I asked.

The newlyweds grinned. “When in New York,” they replied.

What to Know Before Booking Your Ladies Pavilion Wedding

If you’re considering a Central Park wedding at Ladies Pavilion, here are some insider tips:

  • Permits are required for groups over 20, but highly recommended regardless of your group size. Ladies Pavilion is one of the most popular ceremony sites, so I always recommend getting a Central Park wedding permit. A special events permit runs $25 and can be booked online up to one year in advance.
  • Accessibility from the street. Ladies Pavilion is relatively easy to reach, even for people with mobility issues, but it does involve about a 10 minute walk through the park from the street. Wear comfortable shoes, especially if you’re also doing a photo session.
  • A good rain option for smaller groups. Ladies Pavilion has a roof that will easily shelter a group of about 8 people, so even if it’s rainy, you (and a small amount of guests) can stay dry inside.
