Bethesda Terrace wedding in Central Park NYC

The Best Central Park Wedding Locations

If you’re dreaming of a romantic elopement or a cozy celebration with just a handful of loved ones, New York City’s most iconic park is full of hidden gems. These Central Park wedding locations offer serene landscapes, charming architecture, and the perfect balance of nature and city energy—all without requiring a huge guest list or complicated planning. Whether you want lush gardens, water views, classic bridges, or rustic charm, Central Park has a spot that feels like it was made for intimate “I do’s.”

Below are some of the best Central Park wedding locations ideal for ceremonies for up to 50 guests.

(Note: for weddings over 20 people, you will need a Special Events permit, which costs $25 and takes 30 days to process. However, regardless if you have 20 people, for popular locations I would recommend applying for a permit.)

The Best Central Park Wedding Locations

Cop Cot wedding in Central Park, NYC

1. Cop Cot

Maximum: 50 people

Cop Cot is a beautiful shaded wooden pergola that can hold more guests than most, with both benches and standing room. The structure is close to the Central Park South and 6th Avenue park entrance, but since it’s perched on top of a hill, you can’t hear the street traffic. Note that there are benches and grassy areas nearby where you may have loiterers, and also note that the shade on this structure depends on the trees covering the top. For this reason, I would recommend Cop Cot for weddings in late spring through summer, especially if you’re planning a midday wedding when the sun is strong.

2. Bethesda Terrace

Maximum: 50 people

Bethesda Terrace is one of the most recognizable locations within the park, with its ornate archways, tiled ceiling and painted murals. For those exact reasons, it’s one of the most trafficked sites in the park. However, it’s very doable to pull off a small wedding ceremony here so long as you do it in the morning (I recommend 10am or earlier). Later in the afternoon you’ll have tourists and performers all vying for space, but in the early morning, it can feel like a private space.

Ladies Pavilion wedding in Central Park, NYC

3. Ladies’ Pavilion

Maximum: 25 people

Ladies’ Pavilion is one of Central Park’s most popular wedding locations, and it’s no wonder why. The gothic-style iron gazebo is small and romantic, surrounded by trees. It’s also near the lake for a great post-ceremony photo location. Note that Ladies’ Pavilion is quite small, so you can comfortably fit maybe 8 people inside the gazebo, and the overflow can stand outside the structure. As this is a sought-after location, I would recommend getting a permit, regardless of how many guests you have.

Wagner Cove wedding in Central Park, NYC

4. Wagner Cove

Maximum: 20 people

If you’re looking for something a little more private, Wagner Cove is a small wooden shelter on the lake, accessible only by two narrow footpaths. If you want a quiet ceremony with stunning photo opportunities—especially at sunset—Wagner Cove is one of the top small Central Park wedding locations to consider. However, the shelter itself is small (only six or so people can comfortably fit inside without crowding), so any additional guests will need to stand outside the structure.

5. Gapstow Bridge

Maximum: 35 people

Located near the southeast corner of Central Park, Gapstow Bridge sits at the head of a quiet, grassy area. The views of the bridge, quiet river and skyscrapers in the distance make this a great spot for a small Central Park wedding. Bonus: while Gapstow Bridge sees its fair share of visitors, this little nook isn’t a formal “destination,” so you can enjoy some added privacy for your ceremony.

Shakespeare Garden wedding in Central Park

6. Shakespeare Garden

Maximum: 20 people

Tucked away on a hillside, Shakespeare Garden feels secluded yet easy to reach, offering couples a peaceful escape from the city’s bustle. Its winding pathways, wooden benches, and seasonal blooms inspired by Shakespeare’s works create an enchanting, storybook atmosphere. With charming spots like the rustic stone steps and flower-lined terraces, it provides beautiful backdrops for photos without the need for elaborate décor.

Tips for Choosing Your Central Park Wedding Location

  • Plan for the season. Flowers peak in spring and early summer; foliage is stunning in fall.
  • Consider the time of day. Some locations are more private in the early morning, but others have better lighting before sunset.
  • Think about accessibility. Some locations are more secluded or require short walks.
  • Check permit requirements. Many small wedding sites require a simple, affordable Central Park permit.
