M & J’s Gantry Plaza State Park engagement photo session had all the elements I love: the warm honey glow of golden hour, the Manhattan skyline, the personal touches of a ferry ride and lounging in the grass. But M & J’s playful, totally-in-love personalities what what really made everything come to life.
Gantry Plaza State Park is actually something of a secret gem for New Yorkers; I actually recommend it as a relatively private proposal spot with views of the skyline. Located in Long Island City, Queens, the park is accessible from Manhattan via ferry, which is what we first did (hey, can’t go wrong with a little sunset boat ride!). From the moment I met them at the ferry terminal to the time we left each other at the park, they were completely at ease and in their element. They kicked off their shoes and lounged on a blanket in the grass, naming animals they saw in the clouds. They laid down on the reclined benches and watched the sun dip behind the Empire State Building. They twirled and danced on the promenade. And all the while, there wasn’t a moment when they weren’t giggling and stealing kisses.
Feeling a little uncomfortable in front of the camera? Try to just forget that I’m even there. Yeah, the view of the city was good, and the weather was perfect — but them just having fun with it is what made this Gantry Plaza State Park engagement session so damn magical.
