Four Freedoms Park Wedding on Roosevelt Island
LOCATION:FOUR FREEDOMS PARK
DRESS:COMME DES GARCONS
For those looking for modern, architectural and quiet, look no further than this Four Freedoms Park wedding on Roosevelt Island. Some people forget about this island floating in the East River (I know I do!) when contemplating NYC wedding venues, but for this couple, this architectural beauty was their first choice.
Both bride and groom wanted something structurally stunning, but also private. Whereas most couples elect for iconic marvels like the Empire State Building or the Brooklyn Bridge to be the backdrop of their ceremony, this couple knew they didn’t want to compete with throngs of people. Roosevelt Island, a place that really only locals go to, was the perfect venue for their intimate microwedding. (Pro tip: you’ll need a photography permit to photograph at Four Freedoms Park.)
After exchanging their vows in front of a small group of close friends, the pair spent the majority of their time with me taking advantage of our surroundings. The four acre park was a perfect backdrop: walking through a double-row of trees, you’ll reach an open-air granite installation on the southernmost tip of the island. Add to it the early morning fog and the bride’s black Comme des Garcons wedding dress, and you’ve got editorial moodiness galore.
To cap the day, some coffee and croissants, all the while enjoying views of the river, Manhattan skyline and Queensboro Bridge. For a couple who planned this all in less than a month, I’d say it couldn’t have gone better.
Four Freedoms Park Wedding
One of the most stunning elopements I’ve seen, from the dress to the architecture.
