Kat and James’s Brooklyn Bridge Park Wedding
After a decade (yes, decade) of dating, Sydney, Australia-based couple Kat and James decided that a New York elopement was the only thing that could measure up. The couple wanted the iconic NYC look, with yellow taxi cabs, Grand Central Terminal and the Brooklyn Bridge, and when I showed up at their Airbnb-rented apartment in Brooklyn Heights to meet them for the first time, I was excited to show them the grandness that is the place I call home.
But by the end of the night, the electricity of the city seemed diminutive compared to that put out by the couple and their small gathering of close family and friends. The anecdote-laced speeches that left everyone doubled over in laughter, the groom’s father insisting on putting a drink in my hand to join the merriment, the entire roomful of guests singing along at the top of their lungs to Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” — a few thousand miles traveled, and these guys did Brooklyn proud. I was just lucky to be there to capture it all.
